IMPACT of ADVERTISEMENTS…
Though I may not the first one to express he impact of advertisements in our daily lives, but I would like to share an interesting event that occurred with me few days back.
My niece and nephew were at my resi few days ago. Unlike most of the girls, my niece (Stuti) is very naughty. At the age of 5 she is a hell to handle, on the contrast my nephew (Tej) about 8 yrs old is very quite. Both of them are fun to play with though. To play with Stuti, you have to choose a game which involves more of running around unlike Tej who likes to play games like Carrom, Ludo etc..
Now since they had come home and as described about Stuti, she would not allow Tej to sit quietly. So I thought of involving them in some sort of game, which interests them both. I asked them to play Chor – Police (Thief – Police) wherein I would hide a chocolate, the one who finds it becomes Thief and other one becomes police. They both agreed on this.
I took out 5star bar and hid it behind the books on my table and told them to search again explaining them the rule of the game. Not to guess, Stuti found the 5star bar and started shouting “I got it.. I got it…” and started dancing. Now as per the rule she was thief and Tej Police, Stuti had to hide and if Tej is not able to catch her in next 10 mins she would be the proud owner of 5-star bar.

This heroine, Stuti, was hiding behind a wall. Now this wall is cut from below which is supported by the dinning table. I don’t know why it was built this way, it was built by the previous owner of the flat. One could easily see her legs from below the table and catch her.
As I said, Tej did the same. She got caught in 5 mins. She started screaming “Cheating .. Cheating” and came to me. I asked “What happened ? Tej did not cheat”
“No, this 5 star bar cheated with me” said Stuti.

She said “You know in 5 Star advertisement which they show, a person eats and a bite and his legs disappear. So I thought if I eat one bite Tej would not be able to catch me, but this 5 star is not proper, it cheated on me…so I am not out…”

I was amazed on this, just wondering how advertisements leave a long lasting impact on us and we assume things would happen as shown.
